Website Maintenance Cost in India: What You Pay Every Year

Building a website is a one-time cost; keeping it online is a yearly one. Many small business owners only find this out when the domain or hosting renewal arrives at a higher price than the first year. This guide lists every recurring cost, separates what is required from what is optional, and works through an example so you can budget properly.

The short answer

For a simple static business website, the only required yearly costs are the domain renewal and hosting, plus GST. Everything else (paid maintenance plans, SEO, content updates) is optional and depends on how much you want to do yourself.

Required yearly costs

1. Domain renewal

Your .in or .com address renews every year. First-year prices are often promotional, so plan on the renewal price. In our website cost guide, Hostinger listed .in renewals at ₹899 a year when we checked in October 2026.

2. Hosting

A static site of a few pages runs on shared hosting. When we checked, Hostinger's India plans were listed from ₹149 a month (Premium) to ₹249 a month (Unlimited). Renewal rates can be higher, so read the renewal price before you pay.

3. GST

Hosting and domain prices in India are usually quoted without GST, which is charged at 18% on these services.

Usually included, but check

  • SSL certificate (https): free with most shared hosting plans today. Don't pay extra for a basic certificate.
  • Business email: sometimes included with hosting, sometimes charged per mailbox.
  • Backups: many hosts include automatic backups; some charge for daily backups or restores.

Optional costs

  • Maintenance plan: a developer or agency handles updates, small edits and backups for a monthly or yearly fee. A static HTML site needs far less maintenance than a WordPress site, which needs regular plugin, theme and core updates.
  • Content updates: new photos, prices or services. If you can edit HTML text yourself, this is free; see how to edit an HTML website template.
  • SEO and Google Business Profile management: ongoing work that brings enquiries, usually charged monthly.
  • Paid plugins or themes (WordPress only): some charge yearly licences.

Worked example: yearly running cost of a static business website

Using the prices above, before any renewal increases:

  • Domain renewal: ₹899
  • Hosting at ₹149 a month: ₹1,788
  • Subtotal: ₹2,687
  • GST at 18%: ₹484
  • Total: about ₹3,171 a year (about ₹264 a month)

On the ₹249-a-month plan the same calculation comes to about ₹4,587 a year. Your own figures will differ with the provider, plan term and renewal pricing.

Static vs WordPress: maintenance difference

A static HTML website has no database, plugins or admin panel to update, so it has fewer security updates and less that can break. WordPress is easier to edit for non-technical users but needs regular updates and backups. Read more in static vs dynamic website.

How to keep maintenance costs low

  • Register the domain in your own name and keep the login.
  • Pay for hosting on a longer term only after checking the renewal price.
  • Choose a lightweight static site if your content changes rarely.
  • Learn to make small text edits yourself.

All Web Template Hub templates are plain HTML5, CSS3 and vanilla JavaScript with a PHP enquiry form, so they run on basic shared hosting and need very little upkeep.
