How Much Does a Website Cost in India? 2026 Price Guide for Small Businesses

A small business website in India can cost almost nothing beyond a domain and hosting, or it can cost many times more. Both can be fair prices; they describe different websites. This guide breaks the cost into its parts, shows where the money actually goes, and gives sample budgets you can use to plan, whether you build the site yourself or hire someone.

Prices below were checked in October 2026. Hosting and domain prices change often, and most are quoted without GST, so always confirm the final amount at checkout.

The short answer

For a typical local business that needs a four- to six-page website (home, about, services, contact and perhaps a gallery), the realistic ranges look like this:

  • Do it yourself with a ready-made template: the template (free to around ₹1,500 on our store), a domain and shared hosting. Your main cost is your own time.
  • Template plus professional setup: the same running costs, plus a one-time setup fee. Our partner agency starts template setups at ₹4,999.
  • Custom design and development: a one-time project fee that depends on the number of pages, features and the agency. Our partner's custom websites start at ₹14,999 for up to eight pages; larger or dynamic sites cost more.
  • Running costs every year: domain renewal, hosting renewal and any maintenance or SEO you pay for.

The rest of this article explains each line, so you can see which one applies to you and avoid paying for things you do not need.

The five parts of website cost

Every website quote, however it is presented, is made of the same five parts. Knowing them makes quotes easy to compare.

  • Domain name: your address, such as yourbusiness.in. Paid every year.
  • Hosting: the server space where your files live. Paid monthly or for a multi-year term.
  • Design and build: the template or custom design, plus the work of putting your content into it. Usually a one-time cost.
  • Content and photos: the text, images and information about your services. Often underestimated.
  • Maintenance and marketing: updates, backups, SEO and Google Business Profile management. Optional, but usually ongoing when you choose them.

Domain name cost in India

A .in or .com domain is the smallest cost on the list, but it recurs. Registrars often run first-year promotions and charge more on renewal, so look at the renewal price, not just the first-year offer. As an example, Hostinger listed .in domains at ₹899 per year on renewal when we checked, with a promotional price for the first year. Register the domain in your own name and keep the login details, even if a developer sets it up for you; losing access to your own domain is a surprisingly common and expensive problem.

Hosting cost in India

A static business website of a few pages runs comfortably on shared hosting. When we checked Hostinger's India pricing, its Premium plan was listed at ₹149 per month and its Unlimited plan at ₹249 per month, both on a 48-month term and excluding GST. The monthly rate shown for a month-to-month Unlimited plan was much higher, at ₹699. Long terms lower the monthly price but are paid upfront, and renewal prices are usually higher than the introductory rate.

Most shared hosting plans include a free SSL certificate, which gives you the padlock and https in the browser. If a provider charges extra for basic SSL, compare alternatives. You only need more expensive cloud or VPS hosting for high-traffic sites, online stores with many products or custom web applications.

Design and build: where costs really differ

This is the part that makes two websites with the same number of pages cost very different amounts. There are four common routes.

Option 1: A ready-made template you edit yourself

A template gives you a finished design with sections already planned for your type of business. You replace the demo text, phone number and photos, then upload the files to your hosting. On Web Template Hub, niche website templates for local businesses cost between ₹799 and ₹1,499, and several are free to download. Examples include SmileCraft for dental clinics and YatraGo for tempo traveller operators. They are plain HTML and CSS with a PHP contact form, so they run on ordinary shared hosting with no monthly builder subscription.

This route suits you if you are comfortable editing text in a file and following a step-by-step guide, such as our walkthrough on launching a business website on Hostinger. The trade-off is time: expect to spend a few hours collecting content and a few more editing and testing.

Option 2: A website builder subscription

Drag-and-drop builders let you design in the browser without touching code. You pay a recurring subscription instead of a one-time fee, and the plan usually bundles hosting. Builders are convenient for people who want to edit visually, but costs add up over the years, premium features often sit on higher plans, and moving your site elsewhere later can be difficult. Compare the yearly cost over three years, not just the first month's offer, and check whether you can connect your own domain on the plan you choose.

Option 3: A template plus professional setup

If you like a template but do not have time to set it up, you can pay someone to do it. A typical setup includes adding your branding, writing or editing content, adding your photos, connecting the domain and SSL, testing forms and submitting the site to Google Search Console. Our partner agency, JSS Media Digital, offers this from ₹4,999 through our custom website design service. Because the design already exists, you pay for setup and content work rather than for designing from scratch, which keeps costs down.

Option 4: Custom design and development

A custom website is designed around your brand and requirements. Cost depends on the number of unique page designs, whether you need a content management system so staff can edit pages, integrations such as booking systems or CRMs, multiple languages, and e-commerce. Quotes vary widely between freelancers and agencies, so compare what is included rather than the headline number. Our partner's custom websites start at ₹14,999 for up to eight pages; online stores and web applications are quoted separately because they involve much more work.

Static vs dynamic website price

A static website is a set of fixed pages. It is fast, secure and cheap to host, and it is perfect for most local businesses whose content changes a few times a year. A dynamic website pulls content from a database and usually has an admin panel, which is useful when you publish frequently, manage listings or sell products. Dynamic sites cost more to build and maintain because there is more software to keep updated. If you only need to update prices or photos occasionally, a static site plus a few minutes of editing is usually the cheaper choice.

How much does a 5-page website cost?

For a five-page static site (home, about, services, gallery and contact), the cost is driven mainly by who does the work. Doing it yourself with a template, you pay for the template, domain and hosting. With professional setup, add a one-time setup fee. With a custom design, you pay for design time on each page. In every case, ask whether content writing, stock photos and revisions are included, because these are the items that most often push a quote up.

Costs people forget

  • GST: hosting and most web services in India are quoted excluding GST, which is charged at 18 percent on these services.
  • Renewals: domain and hosting renewals are often priced higher than the first term.
  • Business email: an address like info@yourbusiness.in may be included with hosting or charged separately.
  • Photography: real photos of your premises, team and work make a large difference to enquiries.
  • Content writing: clear service descriptions and FAQs take time; budget for them if you are hiring help.
  • Maintenance: backups, updates and small edits after launch.

Sample budgets

These examples use the prices quoted above and exclude GST. Your own figures will differ with the provider and term you choose.

  • Lean DIY: a free or ₹999 template, a .in domain and shared hosting on a long term. Good for a new business testing demand.
  • Done for you: a ₹1,199 template, domain and hosting, plus a ₹4,999 setup. Good for owners who want a professional site live within a week without managing it themselves.
  • Custom: a custom design from ₹14,999, plus domain and hosting. Good when your brand, page count or features go beyond what a template offers.

How to choose the right option

Start with what the website must do. If its job is to get calls, WhatsApp messages and enquiries from local searches, a well-built static site with clear services, real photos and correct contact details does that job. Spend the money you save on photography and on your Google Business Profile. If you need bookings, payments or frequent content updates, budget for a dynamic site or a builder. Our checklist on how to choose a website template for a local business covers what to look for before you buy.

Before you accept any quote, ask these questions: who owns the domain and hosting account, what is included in the price, how many revisions are allowed, how edits are handled after launch, and what the renewal costs will be in year two.

Frequently asked questions

Can I build a business website for free?
You can use a free template, but you still need a domain and hosting to publish it under your own name. Free subdomains on builders exist, but they look less professional and limit what you can do.

Is a static website enough for a small business?
For most local service businesses, yes. A static site loads quickly, is secure and is cheap to host. You only need a dynamic site if you publish content or listings frequently or sell online.

How long does it take to launch a website?
With a ready-made template and your content prepared, a simple site can go live in a day. With professional setup, most template setups take three to five working days once content and photos are ready.

Does a website need ongoing payments?
Yes: the domain and hosting renew. Maintenance and SEO are optional extras.

Summary

Website cost in India is the sum of a domain, hosting, the design and build, your content and any ongoing services. For most local businesses, a niche template on shared hosting covers the essentials at a low cost, and professional setup is available if your time is better spent elsewhere. Custom development makes sense when your requirements outgrow a template. Whichever route you choose, compare renewal prices and inclusions rather than headline offers.
